    On the 21st March 2018 the stone commemorating the centenary of the death of 2nd Lt Edmund de Wind VC was unveiled in the square in Comber. The unveiling was attended by the Mayor & the CEO of Ards & North Down Borough Council, various other local dignatories  & we were very privileged to have some members of the de Wind family over from Canada.
     Edmund De Wind, VC who was born in Comber before emigrating to Canada. He initially served in the Canadian Regiment, the Queen's Own Rifles before transfering to the become a British Army officer during the First World War, and was a posthumous recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy. He was killed on 21st March 1918.
