The Lord Lieutenant of County down

the award ceremony to the county down traction engine club on monday 16th july 2018

     On Monday the 16th July the County Down Traction Engine Club were awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service at a ceremony at Orange Tree House, Greyabbey. The ceremony was attended by a large number of the volunteers together with their spouses & partners. The award was received by Trevor McBurney, the Chairman & the citation by Paddy McAvoy. There were several speakers, including the Mayor, Richard Smart, the President, Ronnie Deering & Walter Rader who manages the QAVS scheme in Northern Ireland.

The County Down Traction Engine Club organises an annual rally @ Greyabbey Estate & this year it will be held on Saturday 11th August. They have a Club evening & Tractor Run on the evening before (10th August). They also organise an Easter Rally each Easter. The Club received the Award for their combined voluntary work over very many years to run an inclusive, fun event which includes displays of classic tractors, practical farming, steam engines, country dancing & folk music from both communities.
