The Lord Lieutenant of County down

The Lord Lieutenant of County Down regularly presents Certificates of Citizenship to people who are living in Northern Ireland but were originally a National of a different country. These new citizens have usually been living here for at least 6 years and come from all over the world including a few from European countries. They go through quite a long process in order to become British Citizens and these ceremonies are the final step in becoming a British Citizen. There is always a photographer present from Harrisons Photography and almost all the new citizens choose to have their photograph taken together with the Lord Lieutenant and usually other members of their family. The ceremonies take place at Hillsborough Castle and are conducted by all the Lord Lieutenants in Northern Ireland in turn, so the Lord Lieutenant of County Down will be present between once and twice a month.
